SA Spirit of SIS Awards 2018

Working as a security officer in the healthcare environment can sometimes be a challenging and interesting role; however, on February 16, 2018, South Australian security officer Graham was called on to intervene in a harrowing experience.

At 5:13 pm, while performing a routine grounds patrol at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaide, Graham received a call from the control room advising him that a woman had been seen sitting on the balcony railing on the sixth floor of a carpark.

Graham, along with two mental health nurses immediately went to investigate and did indeed find a depressed woman dangerously positioned on the balcony railing.

While the mental- health nurses started a conversation with the woman, Graham moved one of the security rails, grabbed the woman’s wrist and pulled her to safety.

Situations like that are not generally something a security officer encounters during their general day-to-day duties.

Graham has described the experience as truly overwhelming and said he was grateful to have helped save someone’s life.

His effort truly went above and beyond the call of duty, and it was an outstanding demonstration of MSS Security’s company values – Integrity, Teamwork, Attitude, Performance and Passion – making Graham a worthy winner of a 2018 Spirit of SIS Award.

Congratulations Graham.
