Putting our skills to the test

The 2013 Victorian Mine Rescue Competition was held at AGL Loy Yang on 26-27th October and saw mine rescue teams putting their skills to the test. Eight (8) teams from across the state, including our very own team representing MSS Strategic Medical and Rescue, competed in the annual event.

The aim of the event is to help the participants develop and improve their emergency response/rescue skills whilst in hot pursuit of an award or trophy(s).

Although Fosterville Gold Mine’s Emergency Response Team was the overall winner on the day, MSS Strategic Medical and Rescue won the Skills award, with Castlemaine Goldfields Limited winning the Safety award.

The competitors were put through stringent scenarios in a number of emergency response disciplines where they were able to demonstrate their skills and performance in a controlled and safe environment.

This was an amazing achievement for a team that has only been together a reasonably short period. Well done and congratulations to our Strategic Medical and Rescue team for a great result.
