Community spirit in action at Southern Cross University

MSS Security’s team at Southern Cross University’s (SCU) Lismore Campus in NSW has been officially praised for its community spirit following ex-Cyclone Debbie in late March.

The team assisted at the Lismore evacuation centre run by the NSW Department of Family & Community Services (FACS) during the resultant flooding, which drew praise from Susan Priivald, FACS’s Executive District Director for Northern NSW and the Mid North Coast Districts.

“FACS staff manage evacuation centres in times of emergencies such as these and have told me of the fantastic support your staff provided to the evacuees at the Lismore evacuation centre, and to the FACS staff working there, including offering a feeling of safety and security,” Susan wrote in a letter to MSS Security.

“I have heard many stories of our community partners going above and beyond the call of duty to assist those most vulnerable under very difficult circumstances, at times even putting aside their own needs. Without these efforts and sacrifices, the impact on those affected would have been much greater.

“FACS would not have been able to operate the evacuation centre and assist the many people that it did without the support of your organisation. I thank you for the contribution and would ask that you please extend my thanks to all of your people involved including Adam, Scott, Geoff, Michael, Simon, Peter, Shaun and Paul.”

A sense of community is a real strength of the Lismore team, according to Michael Badger, the Operations Manager responsible for the SCU campuses in Lismore and Gold Coast.

“It was apparent from when I first met the group at Lismore that there was a strong team culture. There was a genuine care and concern demonstrated by each of the staff members deployed at this site,” Michael said.

“This care and concern has naturally, in this instance, been extended to the community at large and is a reflection of the unique character of the Lismore community. I am proud to be associated with MSS Security’s teams at both SCU Lismore and Gold Coast.

MSS Security is extremely proud of the SCU Lismore team and extends to them all a sincere thank you – it is efforts like yours that live out our company values ‘Integrity – Teamwork – Attitude – Performance – Passion.

Well done!
